It is essential to ensure that the centrifugal pump is always operating at sufficient flow to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance. Insufficient centrifugal pump flow can be caused by a variety of reasons, the following are some common factors:
1. Pump itself problem
- Impeller damage: The impeller may be worn, corroded, cracked or broken due to long-term use, affecting the impeller's ability to push the liquid, resulting in a decrease in flow.
- Impeller clogging: If the conveyed liquid contains impurities, particles, etc., it may block the flow channel of the impeller, so that the liquid can not pass smoothly, and then reduce the flow rate.
- Pump housing seal is not tight: if there is leakage between the pump case and the impeller or the pump inlet and outlet seal, some liquid will return in the pump or leak out of the pump, so that the actual discharge flow is reduced.
- Low speed: the flow rate of the centrifugal pump is proportional to the speed. if the motor failure, belt slip or the reduction of power frequency causes the speed of the pump to decline, the flow rate will be reduced accordingly.
2. Piping system problem
- Suction line clogging: the filter, valve, elbow and other places in the suction line may be blocked by impurities and dirt, increasing the suction resistance, so that the liquid can not smoothly enter the pump, resulting in insufficient flow.
- Excessive resistance of the discharge line: the valve in the discharge line is not fully opened, the pipe is too long or the pipe diameter is too small, and there are too many elbows and throttling devices, which will increase the discharge resistance and limit the discharge of liquid, thereby reducing the flow rate.
- Pipeline leakage: There is leakage in the suction line or the discharge line, which will cause the liquid to be lost during the transportation process, resulting in reduced flow to the destination.
3. Other reasons
Liquid viscosity increases, the liquid temperature is too high and the suction height is too high etc. will also affect the flow rate of the pump.
